Detailed
Information:
The TracLite comes packed in a foam cut-out in a very
nice little metal presentation box. Simply remove the
two pieces from the packing and slip the magnet side
of the light into the keychain side. An opposing magnet
inside the keychain side attracts the magnet on the
light and they hold the entire unit together very securely.
The two main pieces of the body are aluminum, while
the magnetic base is plastic. The light is attached
to the magnetic base via a ball joint which allows the
light to point any direction above the plane of the
attachment surface.
To use the light you can either leave it attached to
the keychain base or just give it a tug to separate
it from the keychain. The keychain end has a hole for
keychain attachment and a decorative ring cut in where
it was apparently assembled from two pieced in order
to build it with a magnet inside.
Operation is simple. Twist the knurled bezel relative
to the body to turn the light on and off. You must hold
the body, not the keychain tube, when activating the
light while in "keychain mode".
To change the batteries, unscrew the head completely
and drop out the four #392 button cells. To replace
the button cells, stack them up + side up on a business
card, then lower the body over them. Lift the card and
body, and invert. The batteries will drop into the tube
with the polarity correctly aligned.
Output is in the form of a very soft, very wide beam.
Good for finding keyholes and other close work.
What I Liked: Being able to separate
the light from the keychain is very handy. The magnetic
base could be very useful for close, hands-free work.
Water resistance allows use in the rain and prevents
damage from short dunks.
What I Didn't Like: The switch
flickers a lot. You may have to fiddle with it a bit
to get it to stay on.
Other Things I Noticed: This light
is really designed for short range use. It does not
have a lot of "throw".
Conclusions: Handy little light
that you can separate from a keychain when looking for
a keyhole. Rather dim, wide beam which is good for close-up
work only.
