Light Type: LED
Light Class: Keychain

Short Description:

The Tag Light is the absolutely smallest LED light you can get. its a tiny single LED keychain light powered by 2 tiny lithium coin cell batteries. The Tag Light is available from Pocketlights.com.

The body of the Tag Light is 2/3 gray polyacetal plastic and 1/3 clear polycarbonate. Inside there is a single white 5mm LED, powered by two CR1220 lithium coin cells. On top you will find a tiny red switch which can be depressed for momentary operation of the light, or slid forward for constant on. Inside is a plastic spacer that holds the batteries in place and aligns the leads of the LED with the switch.

This light is not water resistant at all, but can be easily disassembled completely and dried out.

The light produced is pretty typical for a single LED light, except that the light dims very quickly during use. This is because the LED draws a lot from the two tiny cells and they just can't keep up for long.

The switch on top is set inside of a depression to help prevent accidental activation, but it protrudes above the level of the light body, so setting it down on its switch causes activation if any pressure is applied to the back.

To change the batteries, bend the light in half at the junction of the clear and gray sections of the body. Pull out the LED, and drop the guts into your hand. Reassemble with new batteries per the instructions on the packaging. Claimed battery life is 15 hours.

The Tag Light includes a metal clip for attaching it to zippers, bags, keys, etc.

Reviewer's Impressions:

The Tag Light now takes the prize as the smallest light available. So tiny it should fit almost anywhere.

Fit and finish are good. No surprises to be found. It assembles fairly easily and snaps together well, although it does not take much pressure to snap it open.

It's so lightweight it withstands drops, flings, kicks, etc. without much difficulty. I wouldn't purposely try to crush it but it should withstand your usual everyday abuse.

Output is OK. It dims very rapidly when placed in "constant on" mode. Over about 1 minute it will decrease from 11 lux to about 4 lux. If the batteries are given a chance to rest it will be back up to its full intensity again. For this reason it is best used only for short periods as a momentary light for illuminating keyholes, finding dropped coins at your feet, etc.

Beam quality is typical of a single LED light. It casts a wide directional flood of light. Thanks to the textured sides of the lens covering the LED it can be used as a marker light. It would be pretty cool if worn as a necklace or especially as an earring.

Water resistance is nonexistent. Open it up and let it dry if it gets wet.

Not much else to say about this light. It's absolutely tiny, not water resistant, and could be subject to accidental activation so precautions should be taken when packing. If you need the absolute smallest light you can carry - this is it!

+ + + Pluses: Small, Lightweight

- - - Minuses: Not water resistant, Dims rapidly, Tedious battery change, Switch can be accidentally activated.
