Short Description:

The Swiss-Tech Micro-Light is a small single 5mm white LED keychain flashlight powered by two replaceable 2016 coin cell batteries. The light body is made from durable plastic and is held together by 4 small Phillips type screws. The light is activated by either squeezing the body of the light for temporary activation or by clicking a tiny switch on one side of the light. A pair of split rings are attached to the end of the light for connection to your keychain.

Detailed Information:

The Swiss-Tech Micro-Light is a late entry into the coin cell keychain flashlight arena, but it's still worthwhile to consider. It has a really cool shape - kind of angular, and it comes at a good price. Yet it has all of the features of some other, more expensive coin cell keychain lights.

The body of the Swiss-Tech Micro-Light is pretty straightforward. It is black plastic, put together in clamshell fashion with 4 tiny phillips screws to secure the two halves together. On one side is a small protruding switch that can be pressed forward and backwards with your fingernail for on/off. There is a hole molded in the end of the light for the split rings that can be used to attach it to your keychain.

The bulb is simply an exposed 5mm white LED which, although practically impervious to impact, could be damaged by a drop onto a hard surface. Output is standard for a single white LED - a wide, smooth, directional flood of bluish tinted light.

Water resistance is essentially non-existent. Try to keep it dry. If it does get wet, the LED will probably come on dimly until it dries out. To dry it you can take it all apart, or just attach it to a piece of string and spin it rapidly above your head to remove any residual water.

Two 2016 coin cell batteries will power the light for about 3-4 hours before you'll want to change them out. That's about equivalent to 3000 uses of 5 seconds each (about how long it should take to put a key in a keyhole.) To change the batteries you will need a small Phillips screwdriver, some patience, and a controlled environment where you won't lose the tiny screws or parts inside. You may be better off just buying a few and throwing them away when they get too dim to use.

What I Liked: Tough/impact resistant, Good battery life, Bright, Lightweight

What I Didn't Like: Not water resistant, Difficult battery change

Other Things I Noticed: Switch could be activated accidentally, but I believe it is fairly unllikely due to it's size and the pressure required

Conclusions: A nice little pocket/keychain light. Put one on your keychain and forget about it until you need it. If you have other Swiss-Tech tools, such as the Utili-Key, it makes for a nice little matching set.
