Light Type: Luxeon III LED
Light Class: Outdoor / Rough Use / Etc.

Short Description:

The Tasklight 2L Luxeon III is made by Streamlight as a general purpose light. The body of the Tasklight 2L Luxeon III light is almost identical to the Streamlight TwinTask lights, consisting of an anodized aluminum body available in black, knurling on the body, knurled endcap which is removed to change batteries, recessed switch, and recessed lanyard attachment allowing the light to stand on end. In the business end of the light you will find a Luxeon III LED inside a custom plastic silvered smooth reflector. This allows the light to produce a very nice beam of pure white light with a bulb that will never blow. The light also has a PWM electronic circuit which allows for 2 levels of brightness by clicking the same switch; full on for 3 hours and 25% for 11 hours, in that order.

Detailed Information:

The Streamlight Tasklight 2L is an excellent example of a company adapting their products to meet customer needs and demands. There are a lot of folks out there who want the advantages of using Luxeon LEDs for their durability and high output, but at the same time don't always need a very bright light for mundane tasks. This light fills that need by allowing the user to select between a very bright output and a dim output as needed.

The body is made of anodized aluminum. Knurling along the entire body gives the user a good gripping surface. On the tailcap is a recessed lanyard attachment. The entire light displays good machining with no sharp edges or rough spots.

In the bezel you will find a plastic lens protecting the reflector and Luxeon III LED. The bezel cap can be unscrewed to reveal the LED itself, although there is no reason to do this whatsoever. The bezel cap is sealed with an O-ring for water resistance.

Output is in the form of a beautiful white spot of light. The spot is smooth with a wide spillbeam. High output is great for spotting at moderate distances while the low output is fine for close work and battery conservation. In low output mode some folks may notice that the light is actually flickering very rapidly. This is normal and creates the illusion to our eyes that the light is dimmer. Some people may find this a little irritating, especially when either the eyes or the light moves rapidly.

Runtime Plot: Nice steady regulation on "High" for about 1 hr 45 min.

Runtime completed with included Duracell batteries. More information on runtime plots is available HERE.

The switch is recessed in a dimple to protect it from accidental activation and it must be pressed in quite a way for the light to be activated. Pressing once activates the light in high output mode. A second click reduces the output to 25%. One more click shuts the light off.

The light is sealed with O-rings throughout and should be able to withstand a dunking without any problems. Shake it off and keep going.

Ergonomics: Comfortable in the hand, easy to grip, and the switch is easy to find.

The Streamlight Tasklight 2L uses two 123A lithium batteries. These batteries are very expensive in retail stores. Purchase them on-line whenever possible.

Accessories included with the light are a lanyard and batteries.

What I Liked: Water resistant, Tough/impact resistant, Long battery life, Bright, Two Stage Output, Easy battery change, Lightweight, Stands up

What I Didn't Like: Nothing

Other Things I Noticed: Nothing

Conclusions: A very nice addition to the Streamlight line of products. The added functionality of a low-power mode for close work and battery conservation puts this light in a class where it can satisfy the needs of a large number of users. Well made, well designed, and overall a winner in my book.
