MINI-REVIEW
(short, quick, and to the point)
The Streamlight Survivor LED is really designed for
firefighters and rescue personnel to clip on to their
turnout gear. It provides a very tight beam for penetrating
smoke and particulate-filled atmospheres. It can be
run on 4 AA cells (model tested) or rechargeable battery
packs. Three output modes are available via the single
click switch on top.
Body: The body is made of a nylon polymer with
a slight texture all the way around. A nylon clip is
attached to the rear for connecting the light to your
gear. At the top of the clip is a loop for additional
attachment options and a large split ring is included.
Bezel/Head: The head contains a very deep smooth
reflector for concentrating the light into a very tight,
bright central spot. There is still plenty of light
in the spillbeam for seeing the environment close-by.
Output: The white light produced by the LED
is has a slightly purplish-blue hue but still produces
good color rendition. The hue is detectable when compared
against a near sunlight-white source, but is not really
noticeable during normal use. The beam has a distinct
bright small central spot with a good sized corona and
wide spillbeam.

Runtime
completed with Energizer brand batteries. More information
on runtime plots is available HERE.
Switch: On top is the click switch. Press and
release for High, press again and hold for Low, press
again and hold for Blink. The switch is very large and
easy to use with or without gloves.
Seals / Water Resistance: O-ring sealed. Water
resistant. Splashable, not designed for submersion.
If it gets wet inside, just disassemble as much a possible
without tools and let it dry before using again.
Ergonomics: It's really made for the rechargeable
battery pack, so it is fairly big relative to the size
of 4 AA cells.
Size
Batteries: Four AA cells power the light. Streamlight
specifically warns against using Lithium cells - don't
do it!
To change out the batteries: Pop open the battery compartment
door and slide out the AA carrier. This carrier is needed
because the light is designed for the Ni-Cad battery
pack and the carrier acts as an adapter. Push in the
two tabs on one side and the carrier will open clamshell-fashion.
Replace the cells, close the pack, and slide it in.
If the door doesn't close, you have the pack in the
wrong way. It's keyed so the door will only shut if
you have it in right. Snap the door shut and you should
be ready to go.
Accessories: None
Impressions: A solid light with very good output.
The beam is quite penetrating with a very intense central
spot.
