The Princeton Tec Aqua Strobe is... well... its name
pretty much describes it! It is a mini strobe light designed
for diving and safety applications. It runs for about 8
hours using a single AA cell, is very lightweight, and is
submersible to 500 feet.
Body: The body of the light is plastic and is
very similar in form to many other Princeton Tec lights.
The tail has a drilled tab for the attachment of a lanyard
and a PFD attachment strap is included in the package.
Bezel/Head: The head of the light serves as
the switch and consists of a translucent frosted dome
which covers the xenon strobe bulb assembly and driver
circuit. To change out the battery simply unscrew the
top and remove the strobe assembly. Inside you will
find the single AA alkaline cell inserted + up. To operate
the light just tighten the bezel until it turns on.
Output: The xenon strobe bulb fires about once
per second and provides enough light to get your attention,
but is not extremely bright. It is designed to act as
a marker light and it does so very well.
Runtime Plot: A runtime plot will not be completed
for this light.
Seals / Water Resistance: The light is advertised
as waterproof to 500 feet.
If it gets wet inside, just disassemble as much a possible
without tools and let it dry before using again.
Ergonomics: It's small but easy to use.
Size compared to a common 2AA aluminum light
Accessories: A PFD attachment strap is included
as well as a nylon lanyard.
What I Liked: Waterproof,
Tough/impact resistant,
Good output for power source, Easy battery change, Lightweight
What I Didn't Like: Nothing.
Picky Little Things: Nothing.
Conclusions: Works as intended.
A great marker light that runs on an easily available
and lightweight AA cell. If you are using one of these
while hiking, boating, biking, diving, etc. it will
be hard to get missed. Great addition to an emergency
evacuation kit or in your glovebox for use when changing
a tire.
