Note: This is an update to the original Princeton Tec Attitude review. Princeton Tec has updated the body. The Attitude with the older style body is no longer being manufactured.

Short Description:

The Attitude is a 3 LED, 4 AAA light produced by Princeton Tec. They can be found in a variety of body colors and are available from Pocketlights.com.

The body of the light is tough translucent Lexan polymer with a black plastic bezel. The body comes in a variety of colors. The batteries are loaded into the body in 2 rows side-by-side. This gives the body a flat appearance. The smaller sides of the light flare out and are textured for grip. Likewise the head sits on a flared area textured for grip. Polarity indicators for the batteries are found on the base of the lamp module which must be inserted properly to function. Inside the bottom of the light are springs for battery contact. The bezel is sealed with an o-ring giving it a depth tolerance of 500 feet. At the end of the light on one side is a built in pocket clip and a hole for attaching an included split ring or a lanyard.

The bulb is actually a module which contains three 5mm LEDs. The module includes a contact system on it's base used to turn the light on and off. Tightening the bezel will compress the contact system which turns on the light.

Batteries are 4 AAA type alkalines, used in series (included). They are included with the light. Only alkaline AA batteries are recommended for use in the flashlight. Advertised runtime is 150+ hours (or about 3 days continuously).

The light includes a split ring for attachment through the lanyard hole in the case.

Detailed Information:

The Princeton Tec Attitude is a very convenient, small LED light suitable for camping trips and hikes. It would be quite useful for puttering around the camp at night or working in the tent. Since it is watertight there is no need to worry about protecting the Attitude from the elements. Drop it in the pond or stream and it keeps on going. Use it in the rain without worry.

The body of the Attitude is very tough. Watertightness is provided by an O-ring at the bezel-body interface and it is rated for a depth of 500 feet. The pocket clip may appear to be something to be concerned about, but in reality it is surprisingly strong and I think it would take quite a bit of effort to actually break it off.

The Attitude also has various hazardous environment ratings.

The lamp assembly contains three white 5mm LEDs in a triangular pattern. These lamps send out a flood of bluish-white light. Since the LEDs are not fragile and do not "blow" like incandescent bulbs, there should never be a need to replace the lamp assembly.

Light output is very good for a 3 LED light and the beam is rather smooth, weighted toward the center. Twist the bezel for on/off operation. Runtime is will be many hours on a set of alkaline AAA batteries. Output is slightly different from the original Attitude tested due to alignment of the LEDs in the module. Variation will be seen between different units.

When it's time for a battery change, simply remove the bezel and lamp assembly, drop out the old batteries, and put in 4 new ones. 2 on one side (+) up, 2 on the other side (-) up. Replace the lamp assembly and bezel. LEDs are sensitive to polarity, so if you put the lamp in and it doesn't work, remove it, turn it 180 deg. and reinsert.

Keep the O-ring lubricated with a silicone-based grease and if the light does get flooded, rinse it with fresh water and let it dry.

What I Liked: Very waterproof, good smooth beam, and very tough case. Shape of the body makes it easy to handle. Small and lightweight.

What I Didn't Like: Not much at all.

Other Things I Noticed: You do get a little light filtering back through the rear of the bezel. Some folks may find this to be a distraction, but it didn't bother me at all.

Conclusions: Great little light for around the house, camping, backpacks, duffle bags, etc. Very small, adequately bright for most close-range tasks, and has a very long runtime on a set of batteries.
