Detailed
Information:
The body of the light is made of Type II anodized machined
aluminum. The Type II anodize is the same as that found
on commonly available department store aluminum lights.
As a result, it will be subject to nicks and marring
from contact with abrasive surfaces. The head and the body of the
light has large machined-in ridges to help with grip.
The head of the light is rather large compared to the rest of the body so that it can house the large reflector used to collect the light from the Luxeon LED and project it forward. There are slight ridges machined into a ring around the head which allows for some improvement in grip when changing the focus of the light.
Output is in the form of an intese white light. The
focus can be changed from a narrow beam to a wide flood
of light. Unfortunately, as is typical for all smooth
reflectored lights, when changing to a wide flood a
large dark hole appears in the center of the beam.
Runtime Plot:
Runtime
completed withStreamlight batteries. More information
on runtime plots is available HERE.
The switch is on the tailcap and is a standard on-off click switch. The switch gives a good positive feedback when used.
The unit has O-rings throughout and should probably be considered dunkable - shake it off and keep going.
Ergonomics: The large head on the light makes it a little awkward, but not overly so. The finish is not abrasive and the ridges/grooves in the light provide for a fairly good grip.
To run this little powerhouse you will need 2x123A batteries. These are very expensive at retail stores. Purchase them on-line whenever possible. Your first set of batteries comes with the light. Runtimes for the various modes are not stated, nor is the existance (or lack of) a regulator curcuit.
A soft nylon belt case comes with the package, but it is a bit difficult to make the light fit in the case due to the size of the head. You may want to get a better one when you have the opportunity.
What I Liked: Water resistant,
Tough/impact resistant, Bright, Easy battery change
What I Didn't Like: Head seems
way too big.
Conclusions: A very nice little light. Nuwai has been producing some surprisingly high quality lights lately and this is one more to add to their offerings. Most Luxeon V light produce a doughnut shaped beam on their tightest focus, and this one is no exception. Luckily with the adjustable focus, a slight twist removes the doughnut and produces a very nice beam.
