Description:
The VestLED II is made by LEDtronics,
Inc. The VestLED II looks like a standard highway construction
worker safety vest with yellow reflective strips attached
to a semi-rigid fluorescent orange mesh vest. Embedded in
the center of the vertical reflective strips the VestLED has
a 8 high intensity red LEDs, four on the left, four on the
right. These are found on both the front and back for a total
of 16 LEDs.
The vest is adjustable for size. Each side has large velcro
patches which allow the sides of the vest to be expanded to
fit nearly any sized individual. On the front waist area are
2 silver snaps which are not really snaps. They are backed
by a velcro closure which is used open and secure the front
of the vest.
The VestLED II has a simple push-on, push-off switch that
is hidden behind one of the reflective strips on the lower
right side. Pressing the switch starts the LEDs flashing at
a rate of about 5 flashes every 3 seconds.
The VestLED II takes 2-AA cells. These are placed in a battery
holder hidden in a velcro sealed plastic fabric (nylon or
some similar material) pocket in the inside right abdomen
area of the vest, right behind the switch.
The electronics of the vest are not described as having any
water resistance, but the LEDs are each protected by a clear
plastic cover which is sealed against and protrudes from the
reflective strip. Likewise the wiring is sealed inside the
plastic of the relfective strips. The battery case is fully
covered by the plastic fabric pocket's cover.
