Short Description:

The Krill Extreme is an area/marker light designed to replace chemical lightsticks and is made by Kriana. The clear tube contains an electroluminescent panel similar to a Timex watch that glows when you press a button. The Krill comes in several models, including the "standard" krill with dimmer output and longer runtime, the "extreme" Krill with brighter output and shorter runtime, and the "180 degree" models with brighter output but light is only given off from 1/2 of the circumference of the tube.

To operate, twist the base one way to turn on, the other to turn it off. Unscrewing the base allows the removal of the 2-AA cells required for operation. The top of the light has a lanyard hole and it can stand on its base.

Reviewer's Impressions:

The Kriana Krill Extreme can replace chemical light sticks as advertised. Its glow is usable in a dark environment for close work. Battery changes are easy and it is waterproof.

The durability of the Krill has come into question. Several folks have reported that a shock to the device causes the electroluminescent panel to fail, with one or two bright blue lines appearing around the panel when turned on, and that's all. The unit tested seemed durable enough to withstand normal bumps and drops. I don't know if I would give it to the kids to toss around in the back yard like a chemical light stick, though.

Although well suited as a marker light, its use as an area light is marginal in anything but a completely dark environment. Personally, I would much rather use an Arc AAA or some other small LED light as a tent light.
