Reviewer's
Impressions:
The construction of this light is fairly sturdy, beam is
pretty good, and it is a very "back pocketable"
shape due to the side-by-side positioning of the 2 battery
tubes.
I have found these lights to be very useful for Luxeon Star
conversions - See the "Mods" section of this website
for reference.
The light beam is adjustable, and like a MagLight, there
are some fairly heavy rings that appear when the focus is
opened up. This is diminished to some degree by the faceting
on the reflector.
This light is pretty well built and should easily take a
pounding from being tossed into a toolbox, etc.
The light seems a little large for running on AAA batteries,
and the light output is about equivalent to a standard 2-AA
battery light, perhaps a bit "whiter" as a result
of using a xenon bulb.
Runtime is going to be less than a standard 2-AA battery
flashlight. 4-AAA batteries do not have as many mAh available
to power the bulb as 2-AA batteries. From the standpoint of
runtime, this light probably would have been better designed
to handle 2-AA batteries instead of 4-AAAs.
With the number of O-rings found throughout the body of this
light, it can easily withstand a rainstorm or a dunking without
water getting in.
A good "slightly better than average" general use
light.
+ + + Pluses: Adjustable focus, Water resistant, tough
- - - Minuses: Dims somewhat rapidly, a little big
for a AAA light, Battery change thumbscrew could be difficult
to turn for some people, Beam quality OK but not great
