Detailed
Information:
Well, I'm very impressed. Elektrolumens is producing
some very nice lights and this is just the next in a
series of admirable accomplishments. High output, designed
for serious work, and made to last.
The body of the Phazer is made of Type II black anodized
aluminum with three wide bands of relatively aggressive
knurling for grip. The head is significant larger in
diameter than the body, but does not look out of place.
Just below the head are 4 cooling fins to dump off excess
heat generated by the three Luxeon III LEDs. The tailcap
is also knurled for ease of use. The entire light is
sealed by O-rings for moderate water resistance.
The bezel of the light consists of a clear glass lens
and O-ring, a special Fraen optic for capturing and
projecting the light from the 3 Luxeon III LEDs, and
the LED module itself. The system is not regulated and
has minimal resistance built in. Instead it is well
heatsinked so as to drive the LEDs at very high levels.
Output is in the form of a screaming bright pure white
light. Since LEDs are used, the entire assembly is shockproof
and there is never a need to change out the module.
By twisting the front of the head the light can be focused
a little bit for optimizing the beam. The three separate
beams from the LEDs are very effectively collimated
into one coherent beam with a nice wide sidespill for
navigation.
The switch is a simple tactical style switch. Press
the button on the end for momentary illumination, twist
the entire tailcap for constant on. The button has a
plastic retainer sheath which keeps it from falling
out of the tailcap when the cap is removed to change
out the batteries.
Ergonomics: Well, this little puppy is not a lightweight,
but it's not as heavy as a comparably sized D cell light
either. Since it uses C cells its diameter is not excessive
for regular sized hands and it's quite comfortable to
use. The knurling is somewhat aggressive and it will
likely abrade most surfaces it contacts.
For power it uses 4 C cell alkaline batteries, inserted
through the tailcap positive first. Battery life is
not given.
What I Liked: Water resistant, Tough/impact
resistant, Anticipated long battery life, Very Bright,
Easy battery change
What I Didn't Like: Nothing
Other Things I Noticed: Nothing
Conclusions: A very sweet light. I'd get this
over the 4-D cell Tri-Star due to the decrease in size
and weight afforded by using C cells. As is typical
for Elektrolumens, this is a very good quality light
and in highly recommended.
