Detailed
Information:
So you don't think a 2AA LED flashlight can produce a lot of light, eh? Well look out! This little flashlight really screams!
The body of the light is a little strange to look at. It has a satin silver anodize finish and is necked-down where the head and body connect. This naturally forms a recess which helps protect the switch from accidental activation. The head looks too large for the light, but it needs to be that big to house the reflector and the 10 LEDs. The tailcap is ribbed to allow for easy turning for changing out the batteries.
As already mentioned, the bezel has 10 LEDs recessed in a silvered reflector. I'm a bit surprised at the fact that there is no lens in the front to protect the LEDs or the reflector surface from getting gunk in there. What happens if you accidentally drop it in the mud? YUK! It would take forever to get the goop out of all the nooks.
Output is in the form of a directional flood of very bright light. Since the unit uses a boost circuit, I would expect semi-regulated output for a while followed by rapidly diminishing output and low light output for a long time. Runtimes are not given, but I would expect an hour or less to 50% brightness.
The switch is a simple on-off click switch covered by a rubber seal.
The light does have an O-ring on the tailcap, but I
worry about the entry of water around the LEDs. Just
to be safe, I would keep it away from water.
Ergonomics: Comfortable in the hand and easy to find the switch. Nothing special to report here.
2 AA batteries power the unit. Unfortunately runtimes are not given, but I would carry spares.
Accessories included were a belt sheath and a lanyard.
There are holes in the tailcap for the attachment of
the lanyard.
What I Liked: Great output for
size, Easy battery change
What I Didn't Like: Water resistance
unclear, Expect a short battery life
Conclusions: Very bright little light. Who would have thought someone would cram 10 LEDs into the head of a AA light? The runtime concerns me, but for relatively brief use the Diamond 10X makes a mockery of the output of most 2 AA flashlights.
