The aliens have landed!!!!!! OK, maybe not... This
is the EverOn area light from CyberLux. It is designed
as an area light / utility light / power outage light
/ closet light / cabinet light / nightstand light /
you get the idea light. 6 white LEDs, four amber LEDs,
4 AA cells, and a very interesting shape result in a
pleasant soft glow that lasts a very long time between
battery changes.
Body description: The body of the EverOn consists of
a lot of white plastic and a clear plastic dome over
the top. In the very center of the top is a rubbery
switch that controls all of the operation of the light.
It is made to be set upon its base, but it has screw
hole notches on the base which allow it to be hung horizontally
as well.
Bezel/Head: Well... it really doesn't have a head per
se. The top of the light includes three white LEDs on
either end and two amber LEDs on either side, all pointed
down at the white curved reflective surface. Clicking
the switch in series turns on the amber LEDs, then white,
then both with the white LEDs at a higher intensity.
The clear dome is not designed to be removable.
Output description: The amber LEDs produce a nice soft
glow at a fairly low intensity level. Good for a nightstand
light or a night light. The white LEDs allow for good
color rendition. When all of the LEDs are on (third
switch click) the white LEDs overwhelm the amber LEDs,
but the unit is producing a much light as it can. This
level of light is more than adequate for normal close-range
tasks, especially if your eyes are slightly dark adapted.

Runtime Plot: This runtime was completed on "high".
Even at this level of output, runtime was very good!
11 full hours to 50% starting output. Note that there
is an initial quick drop which is not all that uncommon
with alkaline cells, but then it appears that a regulator/boost
circuit of some sort takes over to help control the
output.
Runtime
completed with Duracell batteries. More information
on runtime plots is available HERE.
Switch description: The switch is a simple plastic
rubbery click switch. Click once for the four central
amber LEDs, a second time for the 6 outer white LEDs
on low, a third click for all of the LEDs on with the
white LEDs now on high, and a fourth click for off.
Seals / Water Resistance: Essentially there are no
seals. This unit is intended to be kept dry. In fact,
peeking between the top and the base you can see the
wires leading from the battery compartment to the lighting
area.
If it gets wet inside, just disassemble as much a possible
without tools and let it dry before using again.
Ergonomics: If you can press a switch, you can operate
this light. That's pretty much it. It is designed to
be set upon a flat surface, not hand held.
Size compared to a common 2AA aluminum light
Batteries: For batteries, this light takes four AA
alkaline cells. The battery compartment is a typical
flip off cover with a little latch like you find on
children's toys. The little clip can be difficult to
press in and pull out - it really helps if you have
a good thumbnail to catch it with. Once the cover is
off, 4 AA cells go in. The two in the center point one
way, the two outer ones point the opposite direction.
What I Liked: Variable output,
Easy to use, Simple design, Very long battery life.
What I Didn't Like: Not water resistant,
Some wires not concealed and can be seen from the side
(but are protected from contact by the user).
Other Things I Noticed: Nothing
Conclusions: Great little versatile
area light for around the house. Can be used as a room
light during a power outage, a closet light, an under
the counter light, in a camper trailer, etc.
