Detailed
Information:
We're going to keep this as a mini-review because it
is pretty similar to many other keychain lights out
there, except that it actually has a pivoting head and
clip for attaching to a hat brim, pocket, etc.
The body is the typical molded plastic with black plastic
sidepanels. The jaws are actually pretty firm to open
and it should do a good job of holding onto many surfaces.
The head contains a protruding (unprotected) 5mm white
LED. The entire head and switch pivots 90 deg to direct
light where needed when it is clamped onto your hat.
Output is in the form of a wide flood of soft bluish-white
light. No surprises here - pretty standard for an exposed
white 5mm LED.
The switch is a "push in click on, push in and
release click off" type switch. Pressing gently
turns on the LED for momentary light. It has a raised
ridge surrounding the switch which protects it from
clicking on by accident, but does not protect it from
being pressed in far enough to illuminate the LED. Once
the pressure is released it goes off again, but in your
pocket it may be pressed on long enough to run the battery
down a lot.
Seals / Water Resistance: Nonexistent. Keep it dry
if you can.
Ergonomics: People with big hands may have trouble
activating the tiny switch. I just mash it down with
my thumb and it stays on when I let go.
For batteries, it takes two tiny little CR1220 coin
cells. Changing the batteries is a little bit of a pain.
You will need an eyeglass Phillips screwdriver and a
sharp pointed object (like a knife or pin). Remove the
screw, hook the screw-tab end with the pointed object
and carefully pry up. Remove the cover, remove the batteries,
place in new batteries, replace cover, and screw it
shut again.
Included with the light are batteries (installed) and
a keychain.
What I Liked: OK output, Clips
on with pivoting head.
What I Didn't Like: Not water resistant,
Difficult battery change
Other Things I Noticed: Initially
pressing on the battery compartment caused the LED to
flicker, but after a few times it stopped doing that
so there may have been a little dirt on one of the connections.
Conclusions: OK little keychain
light with the added feature of being able to clip it
onto your hat and pivot the head so the light goes where
needed.
